Hi Pupil labs! Does the Neon world camera have an IR filter or can detect infrared in the world?
@user-7ee596 If you would desire a world camera that is capable of recording IR light, we'd be happy to understand why and take a feature request here: https://feedback.pupil-labs.com/neon
With Neon there is potential to build custom frames that extend the module with additional sensors like this.
Hi @user-7ee596 The scene camera only records visible light. π
Hi both, thanks for the quick responses! I'll follow up via email!
Hello everyone! My team and I are currently using an Invisible eye tracking device, but we're looking into buying one of your eye trackers, either the Core or the Neon. Our project makes use of several sensors (such as an EEG helmet, a respiration band, an ECG system...) other than the eye tracking glasses; ideally, we would like to be able to remotely start and control the acquisition of each of them simultaneously. Would the Core or Neon system, and their python API, work for our purpose?
Hi @user-1aa180 π! Great to hear you're interested in a new addition.
Yes, both Core and Neon, and their Realtime APIs, can be used to remotely start and control acquisitions. However, if you're going for synchronisation with third-party systems, rather than starting the recordings simultaneously, we would recommend sending trigger events (to Core or Neon) with a timestamp in the recording on desired events. For Neon, you can also use a clock sync method. Check out this page for reference: https://docs.pupil-labs.com/invisible/how-tos/data-collection-with-the-companion-app/achieve-super-precise-time-sync.html#achieve-super-precise-time-sync note that Neon will work from the same principles as Invisible.
When thinking about choosing a system, consider that Core requires a controlled environment such as a lab to achieve the best results, while Neon is designed to be used in any environment and is calibration-free and resistant to headset slippage. Additionally, Neon has a modular design that can fit a variety of headsets according to your needs.
If you would like a demo, reach out to info@pupil-labs.com π
Thank you very much! I'll discuss this with my team and reach out via email for the demo <:shibehappy:945766247272964116>
Hello. I was hoping for a bit of explanation on what is meant by "Pupil Diameter (later in 2023. Available in Pupil Cloud)"? Does this mean pupil diameter data will not be available until later this year? Any clarification would be appreciated. We are trying to decide between purchasing Core or Neon for some upcoming work where pupil diameter is an important measure.
Also regarding the lack of calibration, in order to not require calibration, does the Neon use any information coming from the scene camera? For our purposes, we often need to use a separate video feed for the world view instead of the scene camera.
Hi @user-44c93c ! Pupillometry for Neon will be added in Q2/Q3. However, you can still get pupillometry with Neon at launch by running Neon with the Core pipeline (using the Core software) - you would just need to tether Neon to a computer, like with Core.
Thanks Nadia!
Regarding your second question: the scene camera images are not used to make gaze estimates (or pupil diameter estimates in the future). Only eye images are used.
Thanks Marc
Hi! Will Neon be compatible with the Invisible Prescription Lens Kit?
Hi @user-0c203f π We will release a frame with a dedicated prescription lens kit in Q3, similarly to what is currently available for Pupil Invisible.
Thank you!
One more question: will saccades be detected in Neon and available as events?
Only implicitly. Fixations are being detected and assuming a setting without smooth pursuit movements, the sections between fixations could be considered saccades.
Thanks!
Hi! With Neon, is there a way to access raw data (at least pupil diameter) in real-time (end-to-end delay under 5 seconds) by connecting Neon glasses locally to a PC and using Python (or other languages) code to access this data? Is there a SDK available? Can we be sure this is possible by april this year?
Can one change lenses in Neon for the diopter? Are these lenses available?
Can I have live chat with the technician - 10 minutes would be enough?
Hey @user-210b60! Please contact info@pupil-labs.com and we will arrange a video chat
Tanks, I sent the email.
Hi! I'm purchasing a Neon eyetracker but I have a few questions about swappable lens sets. What will be available with the Neon? (i.e., diopter range). I'm curious about the specs because I will likely need something more extensive and I work at an optometry school and will likely have someone in our lens group create a custom set.
Hi @user-19bba3! The offering we are planning in regards to swappable and prescription lenses is as follows:
The standard "Just act natural" frame, as well as the other frames that will have lenses, will ship with plano lenses and we will not offer lens kits for those.
It is however easily possible to swap out the lenses and insert custom-made ones created by an optometrist. All diopters should fit.
Additionally, we will offer a dedicated frame that allows to change lenses especially quickly (the designs are not yet final, but imagine e.g. a magnetic connection that allows to swap very quickly). For this frame we will offer lens kits. The release is expected for Q2.
Regarding the diopter range of the lens kits, we are still figuring out the details. What range would be of interest to you?
Hi, which Smartphones or hardware specifications are recommended for using with neon? Thank you.
Hi @user-486277! On launch the only supported phones will be the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8T. One such device is included with the purchase of Neon.
We are going purchase the neon glasses for research in a university setting and would like to know if Pupil Cloud meets GDPR as regards participants data and if not our other option will be to transfer recordings using a USB directly to a computer so will this be same process as with Pupil Invisible and will the files exported using Pupil Player be in csv format.
Hi @user-057596! Pupil Cloud is fully GDPR compliant. You can read more about it here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/18yaGOFfIbCeIj-3_GSin3GoXhYwwgORu9_7Z-grZ-2U/export?format=pdf
Thanks Miguel thatβs exactly what Iβm looking for. ππ»
Also Miguel I just noticed this in the GDPR document βYou can configure your Pupil Cloud workspace to detect and blur all faces in the scene video on upload. β . Iβve not noticed this feature when using cloud, how do you activate it in your workspace as it would be very useful for us in medical training research?
Hey @user-057596! Please reach out to info@pupil-labs.com in this regard
Will do @nmt thanks ππ»
