Bugs at the buffet: Do we stare at what disgusts us?
Our latest Research Digest highlights a study from the Universities of Graz, Bristol, and Bath investigating how people visually engage with insect-based foods.
Using Pupil Invisible eye-tracking glasses and the Marker Mapper tool in Pupil Cloud, researchers observed participant behavior in a real-world buffet setting.
The findings challenge common assumptions about the relationship between disgust and visual attention, offering important implications for the introduction of novel foods.

@everyone We made a video to demonstrate how to build an analysis pipeline in Pupil Cloud using Auto Image Mapper + AOI Labels + Bar charts in cloud. Check out the video: https://youtu.be/QYq35ZRA684?si=kip3xA583qRsgmqz
Does shelf height change the way we shop?( We used Neon and Pupil Cloud to measure real shopper behavior in a small demo study.
By tracking a product across different store layouts, and using our Auto Image Mapper enrichment, we mapped raw gaze onto reference images to capture the exact moment shoppers noticed the product.
What we found Our Time to First Fixation (TTFF) data showed that placement made a real difference: - Top shelf: 3.8s to first look - Middle shelf: 5.1s to first look
We then scaled the same pipeline across six store locations to compare product performance: - Attention: The product βPockyβ (chocolate flavor) attracted attention fastest - Consideration: The product βPejoyβ kept attention longest
From a single shelf test to multi-location studies, Pupil Cloud helps turn human behavior into clear, presentation-ready metrics.
@everyone Two updates to share with our community π
New Alpha Lab Want to see exactly where your participant is looking inside your motion capture setup?
Weβve published a new guide + open-source Python tool that shows how to integrate Neon gaze data with any marker-based mocap system (Vicon, Qualisys, OptiTrack, etc.).
It covers: - Synchronizing eye tracking and mocap data - Calibrating camera-to-marker geometry - Transforming gaze into 3D mocap space
The result: a unified dataset with gaze vectors directly in your motion capture coordinate system.
Works with our mocap-ready frames and custom marker setups.

@everyone New Research Digest What makes a landscape feel beautiful?
It turns out, what we look at isnβt always what we think we prefer.
A new study using Neon combines subjective ratings with eye tracking to reveal how people actually explore rural environments, and how that differs from what they report.
