Hi @user-f43a29 , are there any publications with Pupil Labs that report the accuracy of the devices with older adults? How well do the eye-trackers perform with older adults who have eye changes (e.g., cataracts) or thicker glasses like bi/trifocals? We're in preliminary discussions for a research project focusing on older adults and these were some questions that came up. Thanks in advance!
Hi @user-2ff673 ! In our Neon Accuracy Test Report, we show how we assessed & validated Neon's accuracy [~1.3 to 1.8 degrees]. We included participants up to 85 years of age. We also maintain a Publication List, where you can filter to only see publications that used Neon
With respect to cataracts and older age, while we have not done a thorough analysis, it is useful to note that NeonNet's deep-learning powered system uses the whole of the eye images. It uses significantly more than what you find in a dark pupil detection method, for example.
When it comes to resulting gaze estimates, we also offer two features that can be helpful in such situations:
For bi/trifocals, you technically could have custom lenses made for I can see clearly now. The lens holders have a standard shape. Depending on the experiment, one can also correct for only a specific distance
If it helps, we can organize a Demo and Q&A call for this user!
Thanks Rob, this is super helpful! I may be reaching out to set up a demo and Q&A call with this user. Thank you!
Hi All! I'm sharing our recent study protocol paper with a sneak peek into our set-up with Neon in infants 👶 during free play and book-sharing 📖 . The project is based in Babylab at the Institute of Psychology, Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw, Poland: https://bmcpsychology.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s40359-025-02645-9
