Hi everyone, I'm probably about to ask a question you've already answered a thousand times, so I apologize in advance. In our lab, we’ve just purchased a Neon and the add-on for the Quest 3. However, I'm not quite sure how the devices are supposed to be connected. Does the Neon always need to be connected to a smartphone? Or should it be connected to the HMD via USB-C, since the Quest 3 connects to the Wi-Fi network?

I saw there's a Unity plug-in (Neon XR Core Package) — is there also a version for Unreal Engine?

Thanks a lot!

Hi @user-a4aa71 , no problem to ask these questions!

Exactly as @user-1391e7 says (thanks!), yes, you still connect Neon to the phone, as shown here. You then typically connect them both via WiFi to transmit the gaze data. Your experiment then either runs as a standalone app on the headset or as an app running on a PC that is connected via cable to the USB-C port of the headset.

With respect to Unreal, we have the basis of an Unreal integration that we will put up soon. We will notify you here when that is available.

Hey, fellow user/dev here. Yes, the Neon needs to be connected to the smartphone.

quest 3 stays the quest3 in all regards

Hi everyone, I have a question about the "Bundle - I Can See Clearly Now" for Neon Glass. We'd like to use it with the Oculus Quest 2.

Is it possible to use this bundle with the Quest 2 ? Is there any way to make it work without purchasing new stuff?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi @user-af95e6! I've moved your message to the appropriate channel here.

We don't have a mount for the Quest 2. But it’s possible to build your own mount for VR systems like this. The aim is to prototype a mount that fits the headset’s geometry and constraints, and holds the Neon module inside the headset. If you go down this route, you’ll need to purchase a nest PCB to mount inside the VR headset.

That said, in principle, it might be possible to simply wear your 'I Can See Clearly Now' glasses underneath the headset (if there’s enough space), and then perform a 'mount calibration' each time you wear the glasses and Quest 2 together. You can read more about this in this message: https://discord.com/channels/285728493612957698/1187405314908233768/1326139357572235316, and searching for “mount calibration” in this channel will yield many similar responses. That might be the quickest way to get started with gaze tracking in VR with the equipment you already have.

Hi, thanks for your reply. Could I ask one question? In theory, has anyone already tried to use the glasses underneath the Quest 2 headset and succeeded?

user-f43a29 11 June, 2025, 14:31:18

Hi @user-af95e6 , I'm briefly stepping in for @nmt .

As far as I understand, the user who I was talking to (in the message that @nmt had linked) did do research wearing the glasses frames within a Quest 3. I have also tested wearing Neon in one of our glasses frames within a Quest 3 and they do fit. Please note that if you do so, then as @nmt mentions, it is advised to do a mount calibration each time you put on the headset.

I do not know how it will work with a Quest 2, as it has a different shape and I have not tried it. If the Quest 2 can fit normal glasses, then it should work. There are also glasses adapters made for the different headsets that provide additonal space for such purposes.

Hi we used to make the neon work with unity and quest3, but when we switch project to new computer the connection from Unity to pupil neon failed. We check the configDefaults.json and the ip address match with the ip address from the phone. Can you give us any advice for solving this issue? Thank you.

Hi @user-c9caf9 , I've moved your message to the 🤿 neon-xr channel.

What kind of network are you using?

user-c9caf9 13 June, 2025, 00:21:28

We use Ethernet, phone and laptop are both connected to the router.

user-f43a29 13 June, 2025, 02:14:51

Ok. Is it the same router that was used with the other computer? At the start of 2025, an update was released for Neon XR taking into account that some routers present Neon over a network differently. You may want to give it a try if your installation of Neon XR is not the latest.

user-c9caf9 16 June, 2025, 17:33:44

Is the 1.0.0 the latest version? I also tried use phone as hotpost, and laptop connect to the hotpost. but it still doesn't work. But it show different thing in the console

Do the Neon Monitor app or a basic Real-time API script work over either of those connections?

It's possible that you may need to configure network or firewall settings on that computer.

user-c9caf9 16 June, 2025, 17:50:46

Yes, I test the python api, it works

user-37a2bd 25 June, 2025, 09:20:59

Hi team. Would I be able to book a demo for the Neon XR? Who do I reach out to in order to do so?

user-f43a29 25 June, 2025, 09:24:40

Hi @user-37a2bd , sure! You can schedule a Demo and Q&A call on our main page. The scheduling link is also here.

user-37a2bd 25 June, 2025, 10:30:04

Thanks Rob. I have scheduled a call. I did have a doubt. One of our clients are creating a virtual model using VRED Go. Will we able to view the file using the Neon setup on any system? Or would we have to create a separate virtual environment to do so? I have not worked in VR before so I'm not sure how it works exactly.

user-f43a29 25 June, 2025, 10:34:26

Hi @user-37a2bd , looking at that tool, it seems to run a pre-made VR render on the headset. From what I can gather, our neon-vr-recorder tool should be compatbile and able to save/stream what the user is looking at in VR, including a gaze overlay. In the end, you would have standard Neon data files, as well as an MP4 video with the VR & gaze recording for review. We can discuss the details in the call, if you'd like.

user-37a2bd 25 June, 2025, 13:31:12

Yes it would be helpful if we can discuss this further on the call. We have a client who has been asking about ET in VR for an upcoming project and since we don't have any knowledge in the area any and all insights will be welcomed. Thanks Rob!

Hi Pupil Labs, we are trying to capture audio during XR (AR). We've ensured that audio is being recorded, but our recordings do have display audio on the cloud. Thoughts? Suggestions?

user-f43a29 27 June, 2025, 08:05:50

Hi @user-5fe304 , may I ask the overall research context? Are using the headset's passthrough mode or is audio used for syncing with other devices?

To clarify, audio is saved into Neon's scene camera video. However, when used in a Neon XR mount, the Neon Companion app does not save video, since the scene camera is blocked and would only record black.

user-5fe304 27 June, 2025, 12:26:01

Hi Rob, we are using the pass through mode during primary collection, but post condition - wanted to use the audio recording function asking subjects what they thought of the condition to later export audio recording for qual. analysis. I had a feeling that audio + scene video were recording together in this case. Is there a way to override?
